Review: Sapphic Disco II

If you want the really short version, all you really need to know is that I had an amazing night, drank just about the right amount of vodka and red bulls, laughed lots, snogged loads and ground my sexy arse off until the morning light. So there is no reason not to grab yourself a ticket, leave your ego at the door and have a good night yourself.
However for those who like a little more detail, I shall begin.
We’d missed the very first Sapphic Disco despite having tickets, due to not being able to drag our arses off of the couch. A decision I now truly regret.
However we’d made a much bigger effort to get there this time and after a couple of drinks at the nearby Henry Summer bar, we arrived at the Rechabite around 10pm-ish.
With barely any queue at all we quickly entered and made our way downstairs where we were met by a lovely lady checking our stamped wrists and handing out free snap luminous snap bracelets.
With Wet Pussy shots at just $7 all night we sampled a couple before grabbing a drink and heading further inside.
Ok, confession time! I am no spring chicken having knocked up five very long decades on this planet of ours I was not going to be heading to the dance floor straight away, but with small couples type seating along the left hand side we kind of snuggled in to a corner and tbh it’s where we pretty much stayed all night.
The vibe was exactly as I had expected it to be. Fun, flirty and as the night wore on, a little bit dirty too.
The Perth burly crowd were also well represented this night with a number of top level twirlers here just enjoying themselves and letting loose for a change.
I do have a theory though that you can always tells when there are burlesquers in the club because as the night wore on, we kind of were wearing less and less.
Sometime around midnight the floor cleared as the performances started. With Justin Sider as our host we worked our way through some purely inspirational, fun, sexy and fucking outrageous performances from Mae Dae, Bush Rat, and Justin Sider themselves taking a spin on the stage.
Our favourite for the night though was the circus duo of Ella and Jess. It’s hard to describe every detail of their routine but if you’ve seen the Britney Spears performance at the MTV awards of “I’m a slave 4u” complete with giant yellow python. It was basically that with yep, one of the duo being Britney and the other taking the part of the snake. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while and I’d definitely look out for them if you can.
The rest of the night was spent in a bit of drunken haze (see first paragraph) but leaving the bar at the end of the night, having had an amazing fun and safe night we had already decided we would be here again for round 3.
The fact that these spaces exist is just amazing and if you can manage to drag your arse off the couch, you are in for a really good night.
